Auchan enters Romanian market on November 7
BUCHAREST - The French retail group Auchan will officially enter the Romanian market on November 7 by opening a hyper-market in Bucharest, in Titan.
According to the company, cited by Mediafax, the investment for starting the unit in Bucharest was EUR 40 M worth, the sale area stretching over 16,000 sq.m.
Auchan plans for Romania provide for the opening of the least two hyper-markets per year, in Bucharest and in the most important cities of the country. The next hyper-market in Bucharest will be opened in 2007 in Berceni district and it will part of an ample commercial project to include a mall with over 260 stores and restaurants. The opening of Auchan Titan hyper-market will result in new 800 jobs.
Auchan group is one of the most important retailers worldwide, with 365 hyper-markets opened in 11 countries (France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, Morocco, China and Taiwan). Apart from hyper-markets, Auchan has other categories of stores as well: 664 super-markets, 307 shopping centres Immochan, Accord Bank.
Worldwide, Auchan has 175,000 employees, the number advancing every year once with opening new departments. In 2005, Auchan registered a turnover of EUR 41 bln., and 1.13 billion clients were served in all the stores owned by the group.
